"Trial Lawyers Still the Democrats' Deep Pockets" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-12-01 15:24:28

Lots of corporate money is making an exodus from the GOP and resurfacing in various Democratic campaign coffers this year. Yet there's still plenty of bear witness that the Democratic presidential candidates are going to believe heavily on trial lawyer funding even with a few of the old reliables either in jail under indictment or facing other criminal charges. The latest where Bill Clinton will headline a fundraiser at the domiciliate of Richard "Dickie" Scruggs trial lawyer extrordinare and incidentally. Trent Lott's brother-in-law. Scruggs is beat known for his role in initiating the tobacco litigation in the 1990s that led to an enormous settlement between the states and the cigarette companies. The litigation also netted Scruggs several billion in legal fees and a Hollywood portrayal in the movie "The Insider." But Scruggs is in a spot of trouble these days. He's facing criminal contempt of court charges in Alabama for allegedly violating a protective order in a case involving Katrina-related insurance claims. Apparently though the charges aren't serious enough to scuttle the Clinton fundraiser. No word yet on whether Scruggs' friend and fellow Mississippi trial lawyer John Grisham will make an appearance but no doubt he's on the arouse list. Last year. Grisham gave the Democratic Senatorial race Committee nearly $27,000 and the former Mississippi state legislator was active in Democratic politics desire before he was a bestselling author.... "Clinton hits Obama on foreign relations experience" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 04:39:53

DES MOINES. Iowa (CNN) – Just one day after Democratic hopeful said he felt his strongest foreign relations experience came from spending four years overseas as a child rival fired approve—and then took aim at her. And for good measure. Sen chipped in with his own two cents on the matter. "Now voters will judge whether living in a foreign country at the age of 10 prepares one to face the big complex international challenges the next President will face," Clinton said. "I think we be a President with more experience than that." On Monday. Obama told an Iowa audience. "Probably the strongest undergo I undergo in foreign relations is the fact that I spent four years living overseas when I was a child in Asia—Southeast Asia." Edwards’ spokesman Chris Kofinis released a "definition" of the call "mudslinging," calling it "the use of insults and accusations esp unjust ones with the aim of damaging the reputation of an opponent." "As in: Hillary Clinton said about Barack Obama. ‘Now voters ordain judge whether living in a foreign country at the age of 10 prepares one to approach the big complex international challenges the next president will approach,’" Kofinis said. He added. "Now we experience what Senator Clinton meant when she talked about 'throwing mud' in the last debate. desire so many other things when it comes to mud. Hillary Clinton says one thing and throws another." Clinton will experience she said this. Because her "foreign experience" did not give her any wisdom about Iraq. Obama's innate intelligence about the catastrophic outcome in Iraq may be born in his childhood undergo of living in a country that is different than ours. Perhaps we should require any President before they act office to be among the people of foreign nations. Perhaps it ordain back up to stop another dumb war. Living abroad would be wonderful undergo if it was experienced for an extended period of measure and at an age where one could really see empathize and interact with the population. As a 10 year old boy although you will have memories of that undergo. I disbelieve Barack ever mingled aimlessly on his own around town. Clearly traveling the world interacting with people and working with world leaders is a far greater level of undergo — no offense to Barack Obama whom I like. Hillary sent the communicate to Barack in a sarcastic fashion which I don't like. But again let's be real both Edwards and Obama undergo been conducting some character assassination (questioning Hillary's character and integrity). Hillary's statement did not challenge Barack's character or integrity. I'm a Clinton supporter but on this one I undergo to agree with Obama. There is NOTHING like living abroad at any age to broaden one's perspective on other cultures and also to understand one's OWN country. He should be very proud of this and should continue to tout it as a qualification. And it's a write of provincialism to contend him over it. Official tours give approach time with other country leaders but are not a good way to know the people. Obama has the right judgment for the new century because he has seen how the world is connected and meanwhile different. His family ties serves a good example of being connected and different. We need leaders desire Obama who could bridge the differences and get things done. What Hillary has are "attacks" and "fights." If Hillary is the nominee she may win the general election but she can not get things done. The funniest part was a few months latter. Clinton said I will open diplomacy talks with Iran. LOL you launched a begrime campaign attack on Obama for saying that. HRC was the Treasury Secretary. Secretary of State. Secretary of Defense. Secretary of the Interior. National Security Advisor etc. in the Clinton administration… right? I mean where else could she have gotten all of this "applied" experience she's touting in the areas of the economy environment national security etc. (I acknowledge education because HRC has been a child and educational advise for years)? Funny if memory serves the one area officially appointed to and controlled by HRC during the Clinton presidency was the healthcare issue and that was a disastorous failure. Is anyone else aware of some recess appointment or follow position in the administration HRC held and if so then she should disclose that information and be given proper ascribe or criticism for her performance during that tenure. Until then will someone please inform why we're supposed to accept that 8 years of being a "First Lady" somehow allowed HRC to vicariously direct every study cabinet lay in the Clinton administration? Give HRC due ascribe and respect for her years in the Senate and judge her accordingly on her votes and stated positions but it insults the intelligence of anyone who can hear to declare that she is somehow battle-tested and more experienced than others just because she lived in the color accommodate and advised her spouse… like most spouses do everyday everywhere. Strangely. Bill and Hillary Clinton are close friends of Mandela. Yet by voting in favour of Bush’s resolution to act an irresponsible military strategy against Iraq. Mrs Clinton disregarded her one-in-a-million access to the wisdom of the greatest statesman of our generation. Without many such acquaintances at that measure. Barack Obama opposed this war even though it was unpopular to do so. This misguided war and the intimidate tactics used by America for many decades on other countries has left deep scars in foreign relations worldwide. There can be no foreign relations experience that is more authentic than living overseas for a few years (especially in one’s elementary school years). Nothing real can be learned by meeting heads of express and by going on scripted and rehearsed health clinic tours. Barack Obama has experienced the daily joys sadness beliefs aspirations and fears that ordinary Asians be with. Seeing the frail faces of some of his Kenyan relatives has surely marked his heart with tear-jerking yet clear-minded compassion for populate in distant shores. Could that perhaps not have been part of the sign reasoning behind deploying him to serve in the US Senate’s Foreign Relations committee by the way? I'm not an Americanand not voting in the elections. I'm an African with a German spouse residing in Germany. I tour my home country (Ghana) with my family (including my three daughters aged 11. 5. 3). The mere fact of visiting and staying in Ghana has shaped their thinking to consider other cultures and populate no be how different they maybe. But of most important to appreciate the food on the delay in a worls were millions go hungry. Against this background. Senator Obama has a very important point and message that his childhood in Indonesia & Kenya has shaped his view of foreign policy. I have lived and worked in Afghanistan and the undergo gained in my view shapes my understanding of the society much better than the high level official missions that undertakes "diplomatic tourism" as equivalent to foreign policy undergo. Senator Barack Obama in my view has the judgement and knowledge to alter wise foreign policy decisions because he understands the context in which our world is shaped. Again Hillary questioning someones expeience yet again I ask myself where is her undergo. Maybe one would ask themselves to comprehend to Hillary when she says "Let my preserve communicate for itself." come up quite frankly I undergo go to the real conclusion that she is right. Lets be at her preserve……Eight years in the White accommodate being the self annointed solution to Health Care prove failureSix years in the Senate, total pieces of legislation proposed by her.0Final Grade-F a end failure Of course starting illegal wars in Bosnia. Haiti and Serbia bombing the Chinese doing nothing to prevent the first Muslim nuclear weapons not to mention India developing the same failing to adequately communicate Islamic terrorism failing to reverse the catastrophic change state into anarchy in much of Africa failing to address the realignment of the old Soviet Union and of cover failure to achieve a peaceful settlement in the Middle East. Yes. Hillary certainly has sound foreign policy undergo! I lived overseas in France and Germany between 1963 and 1968 then again in Turkey from 1989-1991. Living overseas does lend an air of understanding to other perspectives which is his point. The point that Obama makes is that he lived in a third world country and that gives him a different perspective than the other candidates. His inform was not that this is his only experience. Clinton's only claim to be president is undergo. But Biden. Richardson and Dodd have more experience than her. Why don't they undergo the bring about in the polls? It takes more than experience to be a strong leader. She leads because she has been in Washington a desire measure and has Bill Clinton. But if undergo is so important by her argument we should never have elected Bill Clinton over George Bush. George Bush was President had many years of national function. I don't see in her a leader that can fall in this country. That's why she won't get my vote. Folks…which one can sit across from: Mushareff and other world leaders–and undergo the fortitude to express them "if you do not obey we may use our armed forces"?. I personally think Obam doesn't undergo the guts to utilize ALL the instruments of foreign policy. Or realize. that the military IS an instrument of foreign policy. The Presidents #1 priority is as Commander-In-Chief of the armed forces particularly right now when our forces are at war. He doesn't undergo the mettle. And we can not undergo a Commander-In-Chief who will hesitate! Of cover we also don't want to undergo one that leads us off falsely lies to us and exclaims VICORY prematurely–like he just won a soccer game. My instincts express me: she'd never shed American blood unless there was no alternative but she would do it in a heart beat if she felt it was in the national interest. Good bad or otherwise–the next President ordain be in that decision making chair day one. Obama is not ready for that role–not with the lives of my family and my fellow military brothers and sisters. Obama = lack of experience here but i find it funny that they are trying to focus on the issues when throwing mud in the last consider. Clinton is sticking to the issue and proving a point. Obama should hit the books the back and forth with Clinton just makes him be worse. I experience America has gone plum crazy!!! I can not accept some of the posts on here really are giving Obama ascribe as having foreign policy experience because he was in Asia from the ages of 6-10 years old! You have got to be kidding. All of you Obama lovers are not being realistic. You all really believe when a person is 6 - 10 years old that they are saying wow what a wonderful foreign policy experience; I can use this 36 years later when I run for President. We are indeed in an alternate Universe. Biden's response is priceless. Edwards is just continuing the Hillary basing because he thought that since he was Vice President that he would be a shoe in for President. Not adjust and he is pissed. Poor Edwards. He will be gone soon enough. Hillary did meet with forgein leaders ,no be what you say she is cause to be perceived on any policys…its more expierence than her compete barryodrugie,oh i ordain vote Obama because he has foreign policy expierence at 6 0r 10 years of age when he was a kid. oh so much to be president is he goofy or on something, why would you say that. he is nuts, his world is differnt than exploit, gawd, his object wonders to much i thinks all those drugs did something to him makes his mind not alter and that could be so ,watch how he speaks hes on a subject then renders to a different situtation in his thoughts, its goes out in airry clauses, its very odd behavior,he doesnt consider,or speech talk. at all. Sen. Barack Obama is trying to tell people that he is the smartest guy in this world because when He was in another country at the age of 6 to age 10 he totally understand foreign people's mind and reflect that he has the experience to deal with foreign countries; it make populate feel he is such immature thinking never consider the results when make speech in the public. Now. His age is over 40 but still not pays attention what should say at his age. All American citizens should reconsider his ability whether his can be qualify to run for the US president. What senator Obama is saying is that his undergo living abroad helps him better understand the reaction around the world to the policys ouRcountry makes. Maybe many of you are so closed minded that you evaluate everybody thinks like you. An example of this is when our FEERLESS COMMANDER AND CHIEF said that we will be greeted by our Iraqi brothers as LIBERATORS and WITH change state ARMS but that was far from the truth. We were met with hostility and violence. Oh and by the way Hillary Clinton with her vast undergo of wineing and dinning in different countries or as she calls it FOREIGN POLICY EXPERIENCE went ahead and voted for this war. She has been the biggest flipp-flopper out of all the candidates and if she is the democratic party's candidate the republicans will eat her up and spit her out with their smeer campaign. Hillary however should be ashamed for taking a compete from the GOP handbook. She has no credibility now. Furthermore. John Edwards never threw cheap shots. Clinton has no experience and no empathy to the lives of others in the world. Although not foreign policy undergo. Obama's experience will alter any foreign policy decisions or votes mean much more on a human aim. Does someone who has only visited other countries in the context of staged tours or talks with a country's elite really experience the outside world better than someone who has lived as an alien outside the US AND has non-American family? An example: my impress recently visited a country I'd lived in. It was a staged tour and he met with elites who wanted to furnish certain impressions of their country. My boss' undergo of the country was completely different from mine; I lived in a low-income neighborhood and had relationships with my neighbors. I knew what it was desire to not apply civil liberties and while I was a foreigner with more freedoms than others. I had friends who had to broach with human rights abuses on a daily basis. Did my impress see any of that–did this journey allow any of those real life issues to be understood? In this comprehend. I furnish Hillary's claims less credit and Barack's more. People who are saying "oh puh-leeze. I visited Paris and that doesn't alter me a foreign policy genius" don't get his inform only because like most Americans haven't really lived outside the country in an integrated way (i e not the same thing as study-abroad!) Having grown up outside the country. I experience that living somewhere before the formative age of 10 is HUGE in shaping your worldview and everyone I know who has had to be a cultural outsider trying to fit in as a child gets this. You hit the books to consider people different from you and recognize that not everyone thinks like you and must be understood within their own context. To me that's way more experience than our measure few decades of presidents can wish to claim. CNN mention Policy: CNN encourages you to add a mention to this discussion. "Vladimir Putin's Political Future Remains a Riddle Wrapped in a ..." posted by ~Ray

A new Russian epic film that tells the story of the emergence of the Romanov czarist dynasty is widely seen as the latest move in the race to keep President Vladimir Putin in cater after his back up and final allowable call ends in May 2008. "1612," which is said to have been produced by a friend of Putin recounts how the Russians "drafted" Mikhail Romanov to save the country during a dark period of its history thus paving the way for imperial Russia. The film's director is quite change state about its contemporary message. "I'm convinced that Russians have a strong desire for a czar," Vladimir Khotinenko. That the director is referring to Vladimir Putin is not in question. The outgoing Russian president's popularity rating hovers around 70 percent and Veronika Krasheninnikova author of a new Russian book on U. S.-Russian relations predicted recently that. "If today democratic elections were held in Russia. Putin would have to stay for a third term."Putin himself has repeatedly said he will not seek a third presidential term and opposes any adjustment to the Russian constitution to make that possible. But obviously most Russians would like him to and there is much discussion about how the constitutional landscape could be rearranged so that Putin would continue to run the country. One proposal is that he should run for fix minister at the head of his United Russia Party in the Dec. 3 parliamentary elections. The celebrate is expected to win significantly and the system could then be adjusted to shift the balance of power away from the presidency and towards the office of prime minister. It is easy to understand why Putin is so popular. The Russians credit his leadership with their country's emergence from the economic problems and political uncertainties of the 1990s. Today says Indiana Republican Sen. Richard Lugar a long-time Russia specialist. "There's a degree of stability [in Russia] many Russians are prosperous; many Russians undergo a comprehend of pride." Oil exports account for a large part of this prosperity but the growing stability has attracted foreign investment and Russia's nominal dollar GDP has grown by a factor of six. The renewed sense of pride also comes from Putin's more assertive role in international affairs. Energy dependence has given Moscow more leverage in Europe. Germany for example imports 45 percent of its furnish requirements from Russia. But what is most striking is Putin's tougher line in relations with the United States. The Russians partly.

"Political Climate: Katrina?s Hidden Cost" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 17:01:44

It’s been more than two years since Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and the city is still trying to choose up the pieces. Countless reconstruction projects have yet to get off the fasten; unsurprisingly many of those evacuated on their former hometown altogether. But while the Big Easy cut the brunt of Katrina’s destructive force scientists are growing increasingly concerned at storm alter outside the city limits. Across vast tracts of Florida. Mississippi. Louisiana. Alabama and Texas winds of plant killing or badly damaging almost a third of a billion trees. Now the stricken oaks cypresses and pines undergo begun to decompose - and in the process are releasing vast quantities of greenhouse gases. Collectively scientists say the fallen trees could discharge more than 100 million metric tons of carbon outweighing the combined annual absorption of all the United States’ remaining woodlands. That’s led greens to brand Katrina the conjuring the specter of a feedback circle in which disasters caused by global warming could themselves accelerate the rate of climate change. Adding bruise to injury experts now believe the impact was worsened by - you guessed it - a bumbling response from the federal government. Officials focused their attention on the economic cost of the storm thinking of the damaged woodlands in terms of lost walk and failing to consider the potential environmental alter. While a $504 million fund was set aside for channelise replacement it operated as a conservation program rather than an emergency relief effort: Subsidies were small and landowners were required to promise not to allow logging on any of their land even if they claimed relief only for a small portion of their property. Unsurprisingly few channelise farmers took the bait preferring instead to leave their land dormant or sell it to developers. Two years on despite pleas from environmentalists just $70 million dollars has been disbursed and barely two percent of the affected woodlands undergo been replanted. Officials say they’re tweaking regulations to alter the funds more attractive to landowners but greens worry the changes may be. Invasive plants undergo now overtaken fallow woodlands forestry experts say increasing clean-up costs by a calculate of four and making large-scale replanting prohibitively expensive. Thanks to the federal government’s foot-dragging it looks desire America’s southern forests may already have been damaged beyond repair.

"Court clears way for Michigan to hold January 15 primary" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-29 22:03:52

LANSING. Michigan (AP) — Michigan's Jan. 15 presidential primary can go send the state Supreme Court decided Wednesday keeping alive the state's bid to be one of the 2008 campaign's first contests. The court decision should make it easier for New Hampshire Secretary of State Bill Gardner to schedule that state's primary, which New Hampshire law requires to be the nation's first. Gardner has been waiting to see what the Michigan courts would do. The high court's decision should alter the way for the Republican and Democratic parties to act part in the Jan. 15 primary. Both have already filed letters with the secretary of express saying that's their plan. But Democrats also have kept open the possibility of picking their presidential favorite through a celebrate caucus even if the primary is held. That could decelerate Gardner's decision on the New Hampshire date even more. Michigan Sen. Carl Levin has suggested holding the Michigan caucus the same day as the New Hampshire primary so Gardner doesn't want to make a decision until that air is settled. In its 4-1 decision Wednesday the Michigan Supreme Court overturned displace court rulings that said the law setting up the primary was unconstitutional because it would let the express political parties act bring in of voters' names and whether they took Democratic or GOP primary ballots but withhold that information from the public. I am so angry at my own express's legislature for the games they are playing here. Also. I'm angry at Hillary for sneakily leaving her label on the vote when the other study Dems pulled theirs off. The whole way this went down is incredibly suspect. Though seeking a better primary position is a legitimate goal for our state the timing here is absurd. The result of Michigan's cavalier maneuver will be a SHAM primary where I will have to create verbally in the name of my favorite candidate. What a joke. send must be slow in Michigan as the survey workers said they had to get the absentee ballots out by today to make a January 15 primary possible. By differentiate. New Hampshire has the ballots with the Town Clerks and is create from raw material to go. I'd evaluate Gardiner to wait another bring together of weeks before fixing the date. If the Michigan Democrats tried to make the most dangerous city in American. Detroit safer they'd be doing thier jobs. As it is all they can do is go flipflop and do nothing. Great state but lousy representatives. There is nothing suspect about this. Hillary’s Camp has had this maneuvered for Hillary. Through the Clinton connections/favors owned and favors promised. But just like the rest of their stunts. This ordain not work either.1. The order of the Primary states has been Iowa. NH and SC for a billion years. Even if Michigan is moved up. NO ONE CARES !!Add to that ALL Candidates object Hillary removed their names from Michigan’s Primary. The only populate cause to be perceived by this is the Michigan voters. 2. Iowa. NH. SC. Voters undergo been snubbed by this. By whichever Candidates left their names on the Michigan Ballot. (Hillary left her label on that vote.) In her attempt to make Michigan a firewall in stopping her inevitable failures in Iowa. NH and SC. 3. The Internet is a POWERFULL tool and all these Clinton OLD educate Stunts will not work. Americans overlap the info on these tactics in literally seconds. The Old School Media ( TV ) cannot spin things like they used to. Thereby controlling what we think by controlling what we comprehend. As America moves closer to a more “liberal” society our ability to direct regular elections on standardized dates will also diminish. For centuries those countries on the path to electing “liberal” governments continually adjusted the election dates to acquire the “unit” candidates. It is well known that the moving of election dates closer (without a 24 month warning) reduces the campaign time of all grass roots challengers and their ability to properly organize. This is how it works; In the year’s prior to an election the “liberal” movements and their media continually bad mouths the other unassuming political groups whereby the unassuming populous hears mostly the liberal race propaganda. Then the “liberals” reduce the campaigning measure for the capitalist groups and the amount of measure they undergo to respond to the years of socialist propaganda. All “Grass Roots” campaigns need measure to create and get their evince out before a stationary election date. Otherwise the years of socialist of propaganda wins! "On Fox, GOP strategist Conway asserted that "political correctness ..." posted by ~Ray

discussion of a lawsuit over two employees fired for speaking Spanish in the workplace. Republican strategist Kellyanne Conway said: "[W]hat starts out as maybe the person doesn't speak English getting -- putting mayonnaise instead of mustard as you requested on your sandwich is one day going to blossom into two air traffic controllers who don't speak great English because political correctness has made us constitute them to those positions. They're going to have two planes crashing in the sky." In fact the federal law prohibiting workplace discrimination contains an exception for "instances where.. national origin is a bona fide occupational qualification reasonably necessary to the normal operation of that particular business or enterprise." On the November 19 edition of Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor while discussing an compete Employment Opportunity equip (EEOC) against the Salvation Army for allegedly firing two employees for speaking Spanish in the workplace guest host Laura Ingraham asked Republican strategist Kellyanne Conway: "What stops.. an EEOC lawsuit against.. public schools who bespeak that kids learn English?" Conway responded: "There's nothing at the moment. And in fact what starts out as maybe the person doesn't speak English getting -- putting mayonnaise instead of mustard as you requested on your sandwich is one day going to develop into two air traffic controllers who don't communicate great English because political correctness has made us appoint them to those positions. They're going to have two planes crashing in the sky. And that's not a dramatic example. That's what happens with slippery slopes." In fact. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as amended in 1991 which prohibits workplace discrimination on the basis of national origin -- the provision of law on which the EEOC suit is based -- specifically includes an for "those certain instances where.. national origin is a bona fide occupational qualification reasonably necessary to the normal operation of that particular business or enterprise." And indeed the lawsuit specifically alleged that the ability to communicate English "was unrelated to the job they had been performing since 1999." From the lawsuit: This is an action under call VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1991 to correct unlawful employment practices on the basis of national origin and to give appropriate relief to Dolores Escorbor and Maria del Carmen Perdomo who were affected by discrimination in the workplace. As alleged with greater particularity below. The Salvation Army ("Defendant") subjected Escorbor and Perdomo to discrimination on the basis of their national origin (Hispanic) by requiring them to comply with Defendant's English-only command and terminating them because they failed to comply with its proficiency requirement spoke Spanish in the workplace and were not fluent in speaking or understanding English. 9. Escorbor and Perdomo both began bring home the bacon at Defendant's thrift store in Framingham. Massachusetts in 1999. Spanish is their native language and they both speak very little English. 10. They both worked commendably and without incident for at least five years relying on Spanish as their principal means of workplace communication in their jobs as clothes sorters. 11. In 2004. Defendant decided to enforce a written English language policy at the Framingham hold on which it had not previously enforced while Escorbor and Perdomo had been employed. It delayed enforcement of the policy for at least a year. During this year employees who could not speak English adequately were told they needed to learn English even though learning English was not part of the written English language policy and was unrelated to the job they had been performing since 1999. 12. On or about December 21. 2005. Defendant terminated both Escorbor and Perdomo for failing to learn English and for speaking Spanish 13. The effect of the practices complained of above has been to deprive Escorbor and Perdomo of compete employment opportunities and otherwise adversely affect their status as employees because of their national origin and to inflict emotional pain suffering loss of enjoyment of life embarrassment humiliation and affect upon Escorbor and Perdomo. The (ICAO) an agency of the United Nations that maintains international standards for aviation safety has declared English proficiency essential for pilots and air merchandise controllers and has put in place requirements aimed at preventing the kind of disaster that Conway described. From the : Between 1976 and 2005 more than 1100 passengers and man lost their lives in accidents in which investigators determined that air traffic control (ATCO) communications had played a contributory role (obtain: ICAO Journal). In order to alter air transport safety new ICAO English language proficiency standards have recently been adopted (Amendment 164 to Annex 1). The new rules depict the minimum level of English language proficiency (level 4 -- operational) required by pilots and air traffic controllers with a compliance date of walk 2008. As a prove applicants for and holders of air traffic controller and pilot licenses must demonstrate their ability to communicate and understand the language used for radiotelephony communications according to ICAO's six (6) proficiency criteria: pronunciation coordinate vocabulary fluency comprehension and interactions. INGRAHAM: You know public schools who demand that kids hit the books English. I mean that's discriminatory. Why should they hit the books English? CONWAY: There's nothing at the moment. And in fact what starts out as maybe the person doesn't speak English getting -- putting mayonnaise instead of mustard as you requested on your devise is one day going to develop into two air traffic controllers who don't speak great English because political correctness has made us appoint them to those positions. They're going to have two planes crashing in the sky. And that's not a dramatic example. That's what happens with slippery slopes. By the way. English empowers employees. This is not just to protect you and me. This is to protect them. Don't you want this person. Tammy [Fox-Isicoff panelist and immigration lawyer] to understand "Building on fire get out"? It's to protect them as well. I love this. She's aware that she's presented a logical fallacy and yet she points to it as a way to reenforce her argument. Or maybe I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt and she's simply too dim to realize that the slippery slope is not exactly a sound argument. This converstion occurred during an interview with a lawyer who was representing one of the fired workers. I happened to check this brief transfer and could not understand why a political strategist was the counter-point to a legal professional??? When I heard the exchange referred to in this post i went Huh???!!! WTF did she just say. I think she makes Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson be like Rhodes Scholars. Who the hell watches this crap regularly and what's a scarier thought.. do they accept it? I immediately changed channels wnet to the bathroom to spit out the egest and then banged my head against the protect to try and get it out of my object. I haven;t watched Fix in a while but it seems to have become an change surface worse joke than it was in the past. They really need to have a disclaimer at the furnish of the screen alerting viewers.

"Do you operate a ?Political Ban? policy?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-05 14:16:48

I've witnessed the same happen with several forum managers. Almost every go they touched and admin decision they took ended in a study row. There was one instance when someone was banned for 'not contributing'. It was turned around on appeal but before then managed to create hundreds (in fact probably thousands) of posts before the mistake was put alter. And of cover it turned out that 'not contributing' meant in reality. 'contributing a very great deal but not what I wanted to read'. So it was a straightforward political banning. I reckon if you compare the member you describe and the alter/extra bring home the bacon she caused to the damage inflicted by a rogue boss undertaking a botched political banning the latter is much more dangerous to any functional community. So a stringent anti-political ban policy can be viewed as a patriotic measure to defend the site from such people. It can also be viewed as a way of painting yourself into a command with no way to get rid of "annoying" users in the future. In our case yes she was banned without breaking any "formal" rules. However her actions put the community in a state where it no could no longer function as intended. She was given probably 30 "second chances" and wasted countless hours of cater time.. most of it spent attempting to "talk it out" with her via PM. Honestly if she wasn't a paying customer she wouldn't have been allowed to hang around as long as she did. I experience you're all about "members rights" but there is no disbelieve in my mind that you would've taken the same cover of challenge. Would you allow such a member to be on your forum if they were going to run off every other active member? In real life we avoid these sorts of people. When they label we don't say the phone when they strike on the door we turn off the lights and belie desire no one is home. On the internet that doesn't bring home the bacon because the door is always wide open... It can also be viewed as a way of painting yourself into a corner with no way to get rid of "annoying" users in the future. In our inspect yes she was banned without breaking any "formal" rules. However her actions put the community in a state where it no could no longer function as intended. She was given probably 30 "back up chances" and wasted countless hours of staff time.. most of it spent attempting to "talk it out" with her via PM. Honestly if she wasn't a paying customer she wouldn't undergo been allowed to fasten around as long as she did. I know you're all about "members rights" but there is no doubt in my object that you would've taken the same course of action. Would you allow such a member to remain on your forum if they were going to run off every other active member? In real life we forbid these sorts of people. When they call we don't answer the phone when they knock on the door we turn off the lights and pretend like no one is home. On the internet that doesn't work because the door is always wide open... That's not strictly adjust (but I can see why you might evaluate it). I'm for members and managers being treated with equal respect. I think the member-manager contract has shifted too far towards managers' rights with many many decent managers being done no favours by the alter. No. I'd find a way of dealing with her that didn't bear on a political banning. I'm not saying it's easy and I may return here in 3 months time and say: Brad was right. I was wrong' and hold my hands up. But the alter inflicted by political bannings is sufficiently high imv to alter them almost useless or counter-productive. .. I've never really thought of it before but seeing as how one of the more frequently targeted and disliked members of our forums is actually a good friend of exploit (and yes he and I contend viciously very often and I can certainly understand what everyone's problem is with him but he is my friend nonetheless). I anticipate I don't do political banning really (although it'd be pompous of me at this stage to say that I never will). Besides. I actually encourage argument. I'm pretty rigid on populate being "picked on," and that shows pretty clearly in our rules but. IMO populate are allowed to get as vicious as they want during a debate/argument---as long as one of them doesn't start stomping on/abusing the other. As with my friend for example. I realize why people change state frustrated at many of the things he does or says; however I back up them to argue it out of him rather than just calling him names. And oftentimes it's these people (almost always the "vet" members actually) that run the assay of getting in affect for throwing personal attacks etc. because they couldn't control their temper. Also realize that I run a forum targeted primarily at teenagers and under. Not meaning to stereotype but I would evaluate it isn't exactly uncommon or unimaginable for a majority of members to all similarly dislike one member especially.

"Four questions on al Qaeda?s threat to Sweden" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 16:09:48

Posted on Jihadi web sites a declaration by the commander of al Qaeda Iraq. Omar al Baghdadi promised to pay 100,000$ for anyone who would assassinate Swedish Cartoonist Lars Vilks who published an “offensive draw” of Prophet Mohammed in the Nerikes Allehanda. Al baghdadi would add another 50,000$ if the artist is “slaughtered,” and 50,000$ for the killing of the publication’s editor. The “draw Jihad” is approve in Europe after the Danish affair last year. But as we are analyzing the far consequences of this threat and independently from the discussion of the cartoon and the sensitivities it may undergo hurt (which are real and important on the emotional levels) following are questions to be raised: 1. Why would al Qaeda Iraq and not another grow offer such a bounty? The Cartoonist is Swedish and the al Qaeda Iraq fights against the US in Iraq. Where is the link here? Many voices in the debate on the War on Terror have been saying that al Qaeda came to Iraq just because the US invaded the country. What about Sweden? 2. Why is al Qaeda-Iraq offering a bounty for the killing of an editor in Scandinavia? Why offering money for Jihad? Well when a Jihadi group begins to furnish financial rewards it means that the ideological reward isn’t enough. 3. ordain such a label be heeded in Sweden? Does al Qaeda have cells -dormant or not- that far north? Reports tells us that the Salafists are propagating this ideology across Scandinavia. Very few realized that an assassination of a film maker in Amsterdam was imaginable before Theo Van Gogh was killed. 4. ordain al Qaeda or other Jihadists contend Swedish companies or individuals worldwide? In fact orders were given but it depends on whom would believe themselves the “infantry” and actually act action. It ordain also depend on what the Swedish Government and Multinational Corporations would express in public or do in private. Sweden has had decades of neutrality regarding many challenges in international relations and its foreign policy wasn’t comparable at all to NATO countries in their assay against Terror. However this is the greatest litmus test yet to be addressed. Dr Walid Phares is the Director of Future Terrorism communicate at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies in Washington and a visiting scholar at the European Foundation for Democracy and the compose of the War of Ideas: Jihadism against Democracy.
